More Than a Statistic

At New Hope Tanzania, our experiences surpass the pages of data; they're encounters with individuals whose lives echo the need for hope, compassion and the healing power of Jesus' love.

At New Hope Tanzania, our experiences surpass the pages of data; they’re encounters with individuals whose lives echo the need for hope, compassion and the healing power of Jesus’ love.

Our commitment to Tanzania was no accident. It stems from a profound calling to serve its people.

Here are five UNICEF statistics that moved us:

  1. Multidimensional Poverty: Alarmingly, 74% of children experience poverty that transcends financial shortage, lacking essentials like proper nutrition and sanitation.
  2. Malnutrition and Stunting: Affecting 34% of children under five, stunting is a clear sign of persistent malnutrition.
  3. Child Abuse: It’s heartbreaking that more than 70% of children face physical abuse, demanding our urgent attention and care. We offer healing and hope for their physical and emotional wounds.
  4. HIV Prevalence: The plight of 91,000 children living with HIV is critical, with less than two-thirds receiving necessary treatments.
  5. Sanitation Deficiency: With the absence of handwashing facilities in the vast majority of schools.

To understand multidimensional poverty is to recognize the breadth of basic human needs unfulfilled, spanning health, education, and living conditions. Stunting is not solely a physical measurement but a distressing indicator of nutritional lack, impacting the cognitive and physical development of children.  Women who are stunted from adolescence have a higher likelihood as adults to have complications from premature birth.

In the face of adversity, the spirit of Tanzanian people is unyielding. Their readiness for transformation and spiritual growth propels our efforts forward. The hope of Jesus is the cornerstone of our work at New Hope, mirrored in the faces of those we serve. We invite you to join us in this journey of lasting impact.

Together, Kelly
